The UPSC has notified 933 vacancies for the Civil Services Examination 2026.
This includes vacancies in:
Indian Administrative Service (IAS)
Indian Foreign Service (IFS)
Indian Police Service (IPS)
Other Central Services (Group A & Group B)
Reservation for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) will be provided in accordance with Government of India rules.
For IAS, IFS, and IPS: Candidate must be a citizen of India
For other services: As specified in the notification
Minimum Age: 21 years
Maximum Age: 32 years
The candidate must have been born not earlier than 2 August 1993 and not later than 1 August 2004.
Age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories as per the rules.
A candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university.
Candidates who are appearing in the final year of their degree examination are eligible to apply, subject to producing proof of passing before the Main Examination.
General Category: 6 attempts
OBC: 9 attempts
SC/ST: Unlimited attempts (within age limit)
An appearance in the Preliminary Examination counts as one attempt.
As clearly stated in the UPSC CSE 2026 notification:
A candidate already appointed to IAS or IFS on the basis of a previous examination shall not be eligible to appear again.
A serving IPS officer is not eligible to reappear for the IPS.
Certain candidates appointed to other Group ‘A’ services may be permitted a one-time opportunity for service improvement, subject to conditions mentioned in the notification.

No fee for SC, ST, PwBD, and Women candidates
